Door Latch Replacement

Door Latch Replacement is necessary when a door latch fails and can no longer hold the weight of the door. Door latches fail due to wear and tear, or they may be damaged by fire or other environmental hazards. The procedure to replace a door latch is not complex, but requires attention to safety and caution for protecting the property from injury. If you have ever had trouble with the door latch, you know how frustrating it can be to get in and out of your house. There could be many reasons for a faulty door latch such as children playing around the latch, heavy winds blowing against the house, or just old age. The reason for this may not matter- what is important is that you get it fixed as soon as possible to avoid any major problems caused by having an unsafe door.

1.     Identify the Problem

Each door is different, and no door will have the same issues described in this lesson. Take some time to assess your door. The latch has to be changed for this door. Choose the latch that is the same brand as your current door latch if you have a similar issue. You may locate the brand name on your key or your latch.

2.     Remove the Inside Door Handle

Now is the moment to remove the lock. Use the drill and unplastered the latch screws and the inner door handle screws. Then remove the handle inside the door. When removing the pieces, make sure you keep them all together—they’re very tiny and may quickly vanish.

3.     Remove the Outside Door Handle

Every pair of doors is a little different. As we pulled this door handle apart, we discovered a tiny ring plate within the door. A flat-head shrinker was on the side to pull it off and then a screw to loosen the external door handle. Again, every door settings are distinct so that you may set them up in a different way. Once the external door handle has been unscrewed, could you remove it? Make sure you put all the parts separate and so that you don’t lose them.

4.     Remove the Latch

Now it’s time that the latch was removed. It should be straightforward to glide out.

5.     Replace the Old with a New Latch

Now open your substitute door set. Don’t be frightened by the instructions that may seem complicated. The image next to the number that looks like your door lock hole is what you should search for. The standard is Figure 1, which is the simplest.

6.     Reattach the Outside and Inside Handle

Now fit the external handle in place. We had to spin the rod before it fitted into the lock; you might or could not face the same problem. Screw-in the external handle and pound the metal plate back with the screwdriver handle. Reassemble the handle inside, and you have repaired your door.

Types of Door Latch

There are a number of different types of door latches, each with their own pros and cons.

1) Privacy Latch: A privacy latch is a door latch that can be easily locked from the inside to prevent people from opening it from the outside without a key. It’s commonly found on bedroom doors or bathrooms. The privacy latch helps maintain privacy from those from outside the room as well as those inside the room.

2) Dummy Knob Latch: A dummy knob is a door latch that functions as a knob but doesn’t actually open or close the door, hence its name “dummy.” They are mainly used on closets and cabinets for decoration purposes only.

Latch Lock

The Latch Lock is a latch that can easily be placed in a doorway and locked. It is prevented from being opened by a lock that only needs to be turned one way. The Latch Lock can be used in many different ways. One of the most popular use cases for this lock is in hospitals where it can help with maintaining patient safety. In addition, they are also used in public spaces such as library or school hallsways where they make sure that people don’t enter when class is in session or when they are closed. The latch lock was designed to provide more security than traditional latches and to keep the door locked until it is unlocked with the key, which means that there won’t be any unexpected surprises for anyone who walks by.
